Pokemon Go Is Getting Mega Evolution
Mega Evolution is coming to Pokemon Go, with a new mechanic based on the mainline games' popular system. Announced as part of Pokemon Presents, no mega evolved Pokemon were shown, but Tsunekazu Ishihara, CEO of The Pokemon Company, promised that this new take on Mega Evolution will be enhanced by Pokemon Go's unique gameplay. In the mainline Pokemon games, Mega Evolution is a temporary form of evolution used in battle. It was introduced in the sixth generation of Pokemon games, and there are 46 species of Pokemon that can mega evolve. As the announcement for Pokemon Go's introduction of the mechanic was brief, there is no word yet on which Mega Evolution forms will be available, but it's sensible to assume that if a Pokemon in Pokemon Go can Mega Evolve in the core games, then it stands a chance of doing the same in the mobile game.
