35 Essential Tips and Tricks for Getting Started in Cyberpunk 2077

Whether it's combat, exploration, or something more, we have you covered with over 35 essential tips and tricks for getting started in Cyberpunk 2077.

100 Billion Hours Were Spent Watching Gaming Content on YouTube in 2020

Over 100 billion hours were spent watching gaming content on YouTube this year, with Minecraft leading as the most-watched game. YouTube Culture and Trends has released an annual gaming report, and the company revealed that viewers watched over 100 billion hours of gaming content on the site, which is the equivalent of traveling to Neptune and back 475,000 times. This makes 2020 YouTube Gaming's biggest year yet. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/12/15/2020-game-of-the-year-igns-nominees"] "YouTube Gaming has its biggest year, ever, in 2020 with 100B watch time hours and 40M+ active gaming channels," YouTube Head of Global Gaming, Ryan Watt, said. Of those 100 billion hours, Minecraft was the single most-watched game, with over 201 billion views. That's more than the double the amount of views the second most-watched game of 2020 received, which was Roblox at 75 billion views. Garena Free Fire, Grand Theft Auto V, and Fortnite came in third, fourth, and fifth place at 72, 70, and 67 billion respectively. YouTube also revealed the top ten creators in terms of gaming views for the year: FGTeeV, Jelly, Flamingo, Robin Hood Gamer, ItsFunnneh, LazarBeam, Slogo, Mikecrack, Arab Games Network, and Vegetta777. Over 80,000 content creators hit 100,000 subscribers, more than 1000 creators reached 5 million subscribers, and over 350 creators crossed the 10 million subscriber mark, according to YouTube. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=best-video-game-story-of-2020&captions=true"] "We've also seen gaming creators give back in incredible ways this year," Watt said. "The gaming community has always been willing to lend a helping hand when needed. This year, many of YouTube's gaming creators and partnership tournaments raised awareness and money for several causes." That includes Jacksepticeye raising over $660,000 in 12 hours for COVID-19 relief efforts, CouRage raising over $500,000 during a 12-hour charity stream for the CDC Foundation, and many tournaments hosted by YouTube Gaming to raise money for organizations like the Call of Duty Endowment, the World Health Organization, and the United Children's Fund. "And just last week, The Game Theorists' MatPat and Stephanie Patrick hosted a 10-hour charity live stream event to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital," Watt said. "They tripled their goal and raised $3 million with the help from other large creators and gamers like Markiplier, The Game Grumps, Mr. Beast, and more." Podcast Beyond Plays Bloodborne... Finally

BEYOND! On this week's episode of Podcast Beyond!... well, the cast took the holiday off, but as an end-of-year treat, we'd like to present the first (and currently only filmed) episode of our long-awaited Bloodborne let's play series. Watch the episode above or check it out on YouTube. Host Jonathon Dornbush had never attempted to really beat a Soulsborne before recording this, and his cohosts Brian Altano, Lucy O'Brien, and Max Scoville wouldn't stop talking about Bloodborne. So, the trio helps Jonathon begin his adventure into Yharnam in the first episode of our Bloodborne let's play. This was recorded way back in March before shelter-in-place protocols had been established and before we began working remotely. While we're working to continue the show in 2021, we wanted to put out the initial episode to thank all the Beyond! fans for your patience, and so you can enjoy watching as Jonathon either plays terribly or maybe does OK in his first journey into the beloved Soulsborne. Podcast Beyond! will be back next week with our regular episodes, but we hope you enjoy this in the meantime! Someone Added Realtime Ray Tracing to SNES Games

Ray tracing is one of the biggest advancements in gaming technology and is utilized by high-end PCs, the PlayStation 5, and both the Xbox Series X and S. Oh, and also some Super Nintendo games thanks to one incredible modder. Ray tracing is a rendering technique the simulates the way light bounces off objects, which can create much more realistic shadows, reflections, and lighting effects, and game developer and software engineer Ben Carter of Shironeko Labs took on the challenge on making it work on the SNES with his SuperRT chip. You can see it in action here. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/10/18/the-100-best-games-of-all-time-in-10-minutes"] Carter wanted to do something similar to Nintendo's Super FX chip that was used in games like Star Fox to add advanced 3D graphics and special effects, and created a new field-programmable gate array (FGPA) chip that would render the ray tracing for the SNES, or more specifically Carter's Super Famicom. The SuperRT chip can produce single-bounce reflections and direction light shadows, and Carter made it possible by removing the top case of the Super Famicom to make room for cabling and sacrificing an "awful Pachinko game" to allow the Super Famicom to connect into a DE10-Nano FPGA development board with a Cyclone V FPGA," which is a similar chip to the one being used for the upcoming Analogue Pocket. PlayStation Plus Games for January 2021 Announced

Sony has announced that the PlayStation Plus games for January 2021 are the PS5 version of Maneater and the PS4 versions of both Shadow of the Tomb Raider and GreedFall. Revealed on PlayStation.Blog, all of these games will be available from Tuesday, January 5 through Monday, February 1, and its important to note that the PS4 version of Maneater is not available in this round of games and Maneater is not available in Saudi Arabia. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/05/22/maneater-review"] Furthermore, GreedFall is not available in the Middle East (replaced with Assetto Corsa), Japan, or South Korea (replaced with Mistover). In our review of Maneater, we said "It’s absolutely fun to play as mutant Jaws on steroids! Maneater chews the metaphorical scenery as often as it has you devouring humans and the diverse aquatic inhabitants of the Gulf of Mexico, and that’s some good dumb entertainment – for a while." In our review of Shadow of the Tomb Raider, we said "With a story that manages to satisfactorily tread the line between high-concept fun and grounded character exploration, Shadow of the Tomb Raider meaningfully wraps up the journey Lara began in 2013 and convincingly leaves her in a place resembling where she was when we were first introduced to her more than 20 years ago." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2018/09/10/shadow-of-the-tomb-raider-review"] In our review of GreedFall, we said "I enjoyed myself just about every step of the way through GreedFall’s epic, morally complex tale of exploration and swashbuckling. The Technomancer was disappointing, but I still wanted to see other games try the ambitious things it was attempting with more success - and GreedFall delivers on that promise." If you have yet to redeem the PlayStation Plus games for December 2020 - which include Just Cause 4, Worms Rumble, and Rocket Arena - you still have until January 4, 2021. Cyberpunk 2077: CD Projekt Confirms It Will Defend Itself Against Lawsuit

Cyberpunk 2077 publisher CD Projekt S.A. has confirmed that it has received notice of the lawsuit filed against the company and will "undertake vigorous action to defend itself against any such claims." The Management Board of CD Projekt S.A. made the regulatory announcement in response to New York-based Rosen Law Firm filing the aforementioned class-action lawsuit on behalf of purchasers in the USA of the securities of CD Projekt S.A. between January 16, 2020, and December 17, 2020. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/12/28/class-action-lawsuit-filed-against-cyberpunk-2077-publisher-ign-news"] It acknowledges that the lawsuit is meant for the court to decide "whether the actions undertaken by the Company and members of its Management Board in connection with the release of Cyberpunk 2077 constituted a violation of federal laws, i.a. by misleading investors and, consequently, causing them to incur damages." CD Projekt also notes that the "complaint does not specify the quantity of damages sought" and that it will, as previously mentioned, "undertake vigorous action to defend itself against any such claims." The lawsuit from Rosen Law Firm claims that CD Projekt had "made false and/or misleading statements" and/or failed to disclose that "Cyberpunk 2077 was virtually unplayable on the current-generation Xbox or PlayStation systems due to an enormous number of bugs." [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=cyberpunk-2077-portraits-photo-mode-gallery&captions=true"] In response to the above and the messy messaging surround the game's launch, Sony removed Cyberpunk 2077 from the PS Store and Sony, Microsoft, and CD Projekt would "be forced to offer full refunds for the game." If you have been able to get past some of the issues in Cyberpunk 2077, be sure to check out our walkthrough, cheats and secrets, and tips on hacking. Nintendo Had to 'Politely Decline' an Offer to Work With Kanye West on a Game

Former President of Nintendo of America Reggie Fils-Aime has revealed that he had to "politely decline" an offer to work with Kanye West on a video game concept due to the amount of other projects that were currently in development at the company. As reported by Nintendo Everything, Reggie shared the story on his Talking Games with Reggie & Harold podcast, which is raising money for the New York Videogame Critics Circle nonprofit's mentoring work, and he stated that the meeting happened at an E3 "many years ago." Kanye visited the Nintendo Booth during that E3 and was even able to spend a bit of time with Shigeru Miyamoto. He then requested a meeting with Reggie, and the two ended up meeting up at one of Kanye's offices in Calabasas, California. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/02/21/remembering-reggies-best-ass-moments"] “Part of it was talking about what he was up to," Reggie explained. "He was experimenting with a piece of video game content; he wanted reactions to it. He comes out and says, ‘I want to work with Nintendo.’ "We had so many different projects at Nintendo going on, the possibility of doing something with Kanye just wasn’t there, and so I had to find a way to politely decline this opportunity to work with him. I told him, ‘Kanye, you don’t want to work with us because we’re tough, we’re hard. All we do is push for the very best content. We would not be the type of partner you would want to work with.’ And he looks at me and says, ‘Reggie, you’re exactly the type of partner I want because of that reason!’ It’s like, ‘Oh my gosh.'” Reggie said that not only was the meeting "interesting," Kim Kardashian-West was also there. While the project never saw the light of day, Reggie and Nintendo both felt that "Kanye has such a passion for the video game space, and he's a creator." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2015/02/23/kanye-west-is-making-a-video-game-ign-news"] Kanye's history with games extends beyond this one meeting, as he revealed he was working on a game titled Only One that would have players guiding his mother Donda "to the highest gates of heaven by holding her to the light." While he announced the project in 2015, little news about it has surfaced since then. Image Credit: Rob Kim/Getty Images. [poilib element="accentDivider"] Have a tip for us? A Lost Game Boy Add-On Called the WorkBoy Has Been Found After 28 Years

A lost, unreleased Game Boy add-on known as the WorkBoy has been discovered after 28 years and reveals an accessory that could have brought PDA-like functions like an address book, calculator, appointment book, and so much more to Nintendo's beloved handheld device. Video game historian Liam Robertson shared his quest to find out what happened to this add-on in a new Game History Secrets video on DidYouKnowGaming? and, not only did he track down the original creators behind the WorkBoy to learn the story behind why it was never released, he was able to get one of the only prototypes in the world working. As you can see in the image below, the WorkBoy was a keyboard that connected to the Game Boy via Link Cable and would allow you to take advantage of 12 apps, including an address/phone book and appointment book. [caption id="attachment_2457167" align="aligncenter" width="720"]Image Credit: Liam Robertson - DidYouKnowGaming? - Game History Secrets Image Credit: Liam Robertson - DidYouKnowGaming? - Game History Secrets[/caption] The WorkBoy was set to be an officially licensed accessory for the Game Boy that was designed by Source Research and Development and produced by Fabtek Inc. in close collaboration with Nintendo. In January 1992, WorkBoy was officially trademarked by Nintendo of America and even made an appearance at CES 1992. It was profiled by various outlets, but following a brief swell in coverage, it more-or-less vanished. Robertson was able to track down Eddie Gill, the architect of the WorkBoy and the founder of Source Research and Development, and he discussed how the WorkBoy was originally planned on being released in late 1992 or early 1993 for around $79-$89 USD, but various issue prevented it from ever reaching the public. Gill said there were only two WorkBoy prototypes left in the world that he knew of, and he said that one was probably "deep in the vaults of Nintendo," while the other was in possesion of Frank Ballouz, the founder of Fabtek. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-history-of-almost-every-nintendo-accessory-ever&captions=true"] Robertson got in touch with Ballouz and he did indeed have a WorkBoy prototype. Ballouz did not, however, have a Game Boy to test it out, so he sent it to Robertson in hopes he would be able to get it working. When Robertson first connected the WorkBoy keyboard to a GameBoy, nothing happened but a short alarm beep. It turns out that the WorkBoy needed a cartridge to fully function, although none could be found. As fate would have it, Robertson was able to find a ROM of the software in one of the big recent leaks that followed the Nintendo Gigaleak earlier this year. After burning the ROM to a blank cartridge, Robertson got it to work. Seeing the WorkBoy in action is a glimpse at what could have been. It's also very interesting to see this in action in 2020, where many of the functions of the WorkBoy are commonplace. Back in 1992, this was ahead of its time. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2019/12/09/the-lie-that-helped-build-nintendo"] Due to that, it needed to carry a pretty high price. That high price was one of the main reasons the project was cancelled, as the $89.99 USD Game Boy was set to get a price drop, meaning the WorkBoy would most likely have been more than the system itself at $79-$89 USD. Additionally, a large explosion in a factory in Japan that was producing computer chips caused the price of D-RAM to soar, making it near impossible to bring the price down of the WorkBoy, had it been released. Even though the WorkBoy never saw the light of day, Gill's original design helped inspire a new device he patented for a personal communicator, complete with a keyboard and touch screen, that would later be licensed by Nokia for its Nokia 9000 series of devices in 1996. Gill would then go back and work with Nintendo to try to develop a revamped WorkBoy for the Game Boy Advance that would allow for E-Mail, web browsing, and word processing. As with the original, however, it never reached the finish line. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=a-history-of-nintendo-hardware-1977-to-now&captions=true"] For more on Nintendo history, be sure to check out our look The Lie That Helped Build Nintendo and (almost) every Nintendo accessory ever. Among Us, Chadwick Boseman Among Google's Top Trending Searches of 2020

Google has released its annual list of global trending searches and it perfectly encapsulates the biggest moments of the year we can't wait to put behind us. Among some of the top searches were Chadwick Boseman, Among Us, and Tiger King. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-best-reviewed-games-of-2020&captions=true"] It's worth noting that Google compiled these lists based on the biggest year-over-year searches, or spikes, for each specific term. Put simply, these aren't necessarily the most-searched terms of the year, just the most popular as compared to last year. Gaming saw a big increase in 2020 as many needed to shelter-in-place, with record-breaking spending at the beginning of the year. Topping Google's list of top trending searches for gaming globally were Among Us and Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout, which both saw incredible popularity due to their accessibility and multiplayer nature. Valorant, Genshin Impact, and The Last of Us Part 2 also populated the list. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/12/17/fall-guys-season-3-launch-trailer"] Fall Guys was a breakout success, becoming the most downloaded PlayStation Plus game of all-time when it launched in August. It dominated our Summer, had massive viewership across Twitch, and even had companies competing to include in-game skins. But Fall Guys wasn't the only multiplayer game that generated mass appeal. Among Us experienced a sudden surge in popularity despite being released in 2018. Among Us quickly shot up the charts on Twitch (as well as Steam and mobile) to become one of the biggest games of 2020. Everyone was playing Among Us, including U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who streamed it earlier this year in front of a massive audience of over 430,000 viewers. [ignvideo width=610 height=374 url=https://ift.tt/34KStNY] On the entertainment side, Netflix dominated most of the conversation. Tiger King, Cobra Kai, Money Heist, and Umbrella Academy were among the top trending searches for TV shows, with Big Brother Brasil also making the cut, too. Tiger King was a moment in 2020. It was so popular, in fact, that Netflix is working on a spinoff starring Nicolas Cage in a new scripted docuseries. NBCUniversal is also working on a separate series starring SNL's Kate McKinnon depicting the rivalry between Carole Baskin and Joe Exotic. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=best-true-crime-shows-and-movies-to-watch-online&captions=true"] Parasite was the most-searched movie of 2020, after winning Best Picture and making history at the 2020 Academy Awards and director Bong-Joon Ho tying Walt Disney for most Oscar wins in a single ceremony. Other top trending movies included 1917, 365 Dni, and Contagion. 2018's Black Panther was also one of the top trending searches of the year, largely in part to the untimely passing of actor Chadwick Boseman, known best for playing T'Challa in the Marvel films. It was also recently revealed that Boseman will not be recast in the upcoming Black Panther 2. Nintendo Switch eShop Is Down for Some Players on Christmas

If you just received a new Nintendo Switch for the holidays and can't connect to the eShop to download new games, you aren't alone. Nintendo has announced that it is "aware that players are experiencing errors accessing Nintendo eShop, and are working to address the issue as soon as possible." Nintendo took to Twitter to give the news and also said "Thank you for your understanding, and please see our Network Status page for the latest updates." You can click here to check the status of the Nintendo eShop, and we will update this article when services appear to be working again. Screenshot_2020-12-25 Nintendo of America on Twitter As of this writing, when you go to Nintendo's Network Maintenance Information page, it has a notice that players could be receiving when trying to access the eShop that says, "Unable to connect to the network service. Please try again later. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause." Considering today is Christmas, the cause of these network issues could very well be the many new Nintendo Switch consoles that were opened today or those with gift cards trying to purchase new games. As previously mentioned, we will update this article as soon as we hear the problems are fixed. Until then, be sure to check out our list of the top 25 Switch games to give you an idea what you can play this holiday season and beyond. Cyberpunk 2077: Class-Action Lawsuit Filed Against CD Projekt S.A.

New York-based Rosen Law Firm has filed a class-action lawsuit against Cyberpunk 2077's publisher CD Projekt S.A. due to its alleged violation of federal securities laws. Announced in a press release, Rosen Law Firm is filing the class-action lawsuit on behalf of purchasers of the securities of CD Projekt S.A. between January 16, 2020 and December 17, 2020, and is seeking to "recover damages for CD Projekt investors under the federal securities laws." The lawsuit claims that CD Projekt has "made false and/or misleading statements" and/or failed to disclose that "Cyberpunk 2077 was virtually unplayable on the current-generation Xbox or PlayStation systems due to an enormous number of bugs." [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/12/18/sony-pulls-cyberpunk-2077-from-ps-store-will-offer-refunds"] In response to the many issues and messy messaging surround the game's launch, Sony removed Cyberpunk 2077 from the PS Store and Sony, Microsoft, and CD Projekt would "be forced to offer full refunds for the game." The lawsuit claims that, as a result of the above, "CD Projekt would suffer reputational and pecuniary harm" and that its "statements about its business, operations, and prospects, were materially false and misleading and/or lacked a reasonable basis at all relevant times. When the true details entered the market, the lawsuit claims that investors suffered damages." This news follows a previous report that lawyers and investors in Warsaw, Poland - where CD Projekt S.A. is located - were "circling the situation" and were deciding whether or not they should take action. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/12/24/20-good-things-about-2020-and-10-things-that-sucked"] Despite all these issues and CD Projekt's stock price dropping around 29% at launch, it didn't stop Cyberpunk 2077 from selling over 13 million copies and recouping its entire development and marketing costs with pre-orders alone. If you are able to get past some of the issues and are enjoying the game, be sure to check out our Cyberpunk 2077 walkthrough, cheats and secrets, and tips on hacking. Sony Has 7 TV Shows and 3 Movies In Development Based on PlayStation Games

Sony Pictures Chairman and CEO Tony Vinciquerra has revealed that his studio is currently developing seven TV shows and three movies based on PlayStation games. As reported by Media Post, Vinciquerra announced the news while talking about Sony's idea to have much more integration between all of its entertainment properties, including PlayStation. “We have no specific plan yet,” Vinciquerra said. “But we have a program within the company called One Sony... You’ll be seeing a lot more integration of Sony companies together.” [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/10/22/first-look-at-tom-holland-in-the-uncharted-movie-ign-now"] He then discussed that Sony is developing three movies and seven TV shows based on PlayStation games, but didn't go so far as to say if the Uncharted movie and The Last of Us TV series were included in that count. Vinciquerra also discussed whether or not Sony would be following the example set by Warner Bros. and potentially switch to a day-and-date release model for theaters and streaming services. "I don’t think we’ll be in the day-and-date release business, no," Vinciquerra answered. "I think the economic model for very big-budget movies require the windows that are in the flow now and we’ll continue with that... We think 30-day windows are probably the best, it will allow us to amortize our marketing over the two windows – theatrical and home entertainment - so we think that is the way to go." [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=live-action-versions-of-video-game-characters&captions=true"] PlayStation Productions was launched in 2019 and Sony stated the new studio was "already in production on its first slate of projects and has set up shop on the Sony Studios lot in Culver City" and took a lot of inspiration from Marvel Studios. PS5's Launch Year: Looking Back at PlayStation's 2020

Scientists Confirm the Negative Health Effects of Humans Traveling to Space

Human space colonies may be further away than we think, unfortunately. Scientists have long been researching the health effects of space travel on humans, and new discoveries indicate the health effects can be detrimental. As explained by ScienceAlert, we've known that space travel is dangerous for a long time - after all, we've been doing it for over 50 years now. But, if our plan is to colonize Mars in the future, it's important we understand just what is at stake. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=the-25-best-sci-fi-movies&captions=true"] According to discoveries made as part of NASA's Twin Study, extended time in space can affect blood flow to the brain, alter the ratio of bacteria in your gut microbiome, and cause temporary visual impairments, among other effects, due to the microgravity found outside Earth. The issues begin during liftoff when astronauts are subjected to G forces almost three times what we experience on Earth. After exiting our atmosphere, space radiation becomes an issue and something that scientists are still looking to understand. "Going forward, our goal is to get a better idea of underlying mechanisms, of what's going on during long-duration space flight in the human body, and how it varies between people," said Susan Bailey, a biologist from Colorado State University. "Not everybody responds the same way." [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=cosmos-possible-worlds-gallery&captions=true"] A one-way trip to Mars can take roughly seven months, meaning a round trip leads to a minimum of well over a year in space – not counting any research time on the planet itself. While this may not seem like a long time, relatively speaking, it is just shy of the record for the longest duration in space by a single person. Russian cosmonaut Valery Polyakov spent 438 consecutive days aboard the International Space Station in 2016. This is just a singular case, however. In order to truly test the long-term health effects of space travel, we'll inevitably need a larger sample size. Currently, much of the data is pooled as part of NASA's GeneLab Project. This is a more cost-effective way for scientists to test samples and compare data. The results of one such test indicated a collective change in the subjects' mitochondria—tiny organelles within our cells that help to convert food into usable energy. "What we found over and over was that something is happening with the mitochondria regulation that throws everything out of whack," said Afshin Beheshti, a bioinformatician at NASA's Ames Research Center. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2015/08/21/the-martian-features-these-9-real-nasa-technologies-ign-news"] While the idea of living in space or on another planet is certainly appealing, we've clearly got a lot more to understand first. For more space news, read about NASA's discovery of water on the moon as well as possible signs of life on Venus. Among Us Reportedly Had 'Half a Billion Monthly Active Users in November'

Among Us was allegedly played by roughly half a billion players in November, making it "by far the most popular game ever in terms of monthly players." As reported by SuperData, Among Us' earnings figures are comparatively smaller than other titles with as a similar amount of active players considering it isn't heavily monetized. The PC version, which costs $5 USD, was responsible for 64% of the revenue from August to November despite only accounting for 3% of the player base. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/12/22/among-us-review"] SuperData also revealed that the launch of World of Warcraft: Shadowlands led to the highest monthly revenue for the MMO since 2008 and highest player count since 2010. Additionally, Assassin's Creed Valhalla sold 1.7 million units digitally and performed 50% better than Assassin's Creed Odyssey. Even though Among Us was originally released in 2018, 2020 is the year it found incredible success and popularity thanks to top streamers around the world playing it. U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez even played Among Us on Twitch to encourage voting and drew in over 430,000 viewers. In our Among Us review, we said it "lives up to the hype created by its delayed explosion in popularity, for the most part. It's a style of intense, refreshing multiplayer experience that simply didn't catch on digitally before recently. Its well-earned following speaks to just how enticing murdering and deceiving your friends can be, as well as Innersloth's endearing art, approachability, and clever minigame design." 3,300-Year-Old Baboon Skull May Tease a Fabled Land

Archaeologists have discovered that a 3,300-year-old baboon skull may tease a fabled land said to have been visited often by Egyptians, according to a report from ScienceMag. This fabled land is known as Punt, or "God's Land," and according to hieroglyphics, is a land first visited by Egyptians 4500 years ago. Egyptians continued to visit Punt for more than 1000 years, bringing back goods like hardwoods, metals, resins, and exotic animals — like baboons — but until now, archaeologists didn't have evidence that these goods ever made their way back to Egypt. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2017/10/24/the-history-behind-assassins-creed-origins"] "It's an extremely important step in better understanding this mysterious land that we still don't fully grasp," American Center of Oriental Research archaeologist, Pearce Paul Creasman, said. The skull in question belongs to that of a hamadryas baboon and dates back to 3,300 years ago. It was discovered by archaeologists in the 19th century in the ancient Egyptian city of Thebes, according to Science Mag, and it was stored away in the British Museum. Dartmouth College primatologist, Nathaniel Dominy, recently discovered this skull archived at the museum and it might be the hard evidence archaeologists have been looking for to prove the existence of Punt. Egyptians saw hamadryas baboons as the embodiment of Thoth, a god of wisdom, and connected the baboons to Amun-Ra, which is the Egyptian sun god. One of the reasons scientists believe this baboon skull to be from Punt is because the hamadryas baboon is not native to Egypt, meaning whoever had the skull in Thebes 3,300 years ago obtained the primate, or at least its skull, from somewhere else. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/12/08/dueling-dinosaurs-fossil-shows-potential-trex-fight"] Dominy and his team studied chemical isotopes in the skull's tooth enamel for clues of the baboon's birthplace because a region's soil and water has a distinct ratio of strontium isotopes, which are locked into the enamel in the first few years of a baboon's life. This is key because even if an animal like the baboon in question was moved from its birthplace, the isotope signature of its birthplace would still be present in the tooth enamel. The strontium ratio in the skull's enamel confirms that the baboon was not born in Egypt and instead provides evidence for somewhere in modern-day Eritrea, Ethiopia, or northwest Somalia, as the birthplace of this primate, according to Dominy and his team's report on eLife. That region of the world is where most archaeologists think Punt was located, according to ScienceMag, and this skull implies that this baboon is one of the exotic animals Egyptian hieroglyphics talk about coming from Punt. Boston University archaeologist, Kathryn Bard, told ScienceMag that she believes Punt's ports were probably in Eritrea or along the coast of eastern Sudan. Bard believes this because she and late archaeologist, Rodolfo Fattovich, excavated a site on Egypt's Red Sea coast from 2001 to 2011 and discovered a 2,800-year-old stone inscription documenting a voyage to Punt. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2017/10/26/the-first-18-minutes-of-assassins-creed-origins-in-4k"] They also discovered pottery fragments similar to those found in the Sudanese-Eritrean lowlands, presumably from Punt, ScienceMag says. Bard says this 3,300-year-old baboon skull provides "another piece of evidence on where Punt was located," although she says it's not the first Puntite treasure as her excavation with Fattovich uncovered obsidian and ebony she believes to be from Punt. Dominy argues that might not be the case due to the wide distribution of ebony across Africa in the continent's history. Someone should ask famed assassin, Bayek of Siwa, if he knows anything of Punt in the meantime. If you're looking for a way to explore ancient Egypt, check out Assassin's Creed Origins, which features Bayek, and is a game IGN called amazing in its 9 out of 10 review. For more science, read about how Punt, baboon skulls, and Assassin's Creed might not even matter because some scientists believe there's a 50-50 chance we live in a simulation. Psychonauts 2: New Artwork, Interview With Tim Schafer

As 2020 draws to a close, Double Fine celebrates its 20th anniversary and its first full year as part of Xbox Game Studios. To mark the occasion as well as look ahead to Psychonauts 2's release in 2021, Double Fine president and legendary game designer Tim Schafer sent over a pile of new Psychonauts 2 concept art (check it out in the slideshow gallery below). He also sat down with me for a 40-minute interview discussing life with Microsoft, how COVID-19 has affected him and the Double Fine team, whether or not he'd like to make any games using Microsoft-owned IPs (such as Banjo-Kazooie), and how Psychonauts 2 is going. [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=psychonauts-2-concept-art-gallery&captions=true"] On that last point, Schafer said, "We mostly have everything now in the game" and "we're mostly moving on to polishing stuff that's in the game already." He noted, unsurprisingly, that due to COVID-19 and the transition to the entire team working from home, that "2020 definitely did not help speed up development." In reflecting on development up to this point, Schafer said, "Just like the first time [with Psychonauts 1], it took a while to find the levels. And now I feel really good about where they ended up." He also teased, "There's something that happens at the end of Psychonauts 2 that I set up years and years ago." Super Nintendo World's Area Map, Merchandise, and Cafe Items Revealed

Universal Studios Japan has released an area map for its forthcoming Super Nintendo World area, themed around characters from the Mario games and their universe of spinoffs. Starting today, the park has been inviting selected Club Universal members and annual pass holders to experience the new area firsthand ahead of its February 4 2021 opening.

SuperNintendoWorldMap

Super Nintendo World is the most complex area at USJ to date. We had already seen glimpses of the Mario Kart: Koopa’s Challenge and Yoshi's Adventure rides (and IGN Japan previously published a video showing the inside of Bowser’s Castle); now USJ has shared some details of the menu at the Kinopio Cafe (Kinopio is the Japanese name for Toad), which includes a Bacon & Cheese Mario Burger, Piranha Plant Caprese and Question Block Tiramisu. Merchandise to be sold at the 1Up Factory Shop includes Mario themed hoodies, moustachioed glasses and gloves, as well as the cute Tokotoko Mario toy shown off by Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto during his video tour of the park released last weekend. Check out images of some of the food dishes and merchandise below.

In addition to the large-scale facilities and attractions, there will be activities where guests can collect virtual coins and play against enemy characters using a Power Up Band (3,200 yen including tax, or about $31/£23) that can be linked to a smartphone app. These will include activities and challenges whose Japanese names translate to “Aim! Koopa Troopa POW Block Punch” and “Stop! Piranha Plant Alarm Panic”.

There will also be a Meet & Greet photo spot, where visitors can meet Mario and Luigi, take photos together with them and even engage them in conversation.

Japanese superstar YouTuber Hikakin was appointed a partner of USJ, and he has published a sponsored video of his experience at Super Nintendo World on his channel that shows a little more detail.

[ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/11/30/super-nintendo-world-reveal-trailer"]

Universal Studios Japan is located in Osaka, Japan. Super Mario World was originally slated to open last summer, but was delayed to its current February 4 2021 opening date in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Japan is currently not granting entry to foreign tourists until further notice, so Nintendo fans outside of Japan will have to wait before they can visit – though a Super Nintendo World area will eventually be added to Universal Studios theme parks in Hollywood, Florida and Singapore.

For more on USJ’s collaboration with Nintendo, check out our report from the Mario Cafe & Store in the main area of the park, which is already open, selling specially designed exclusive snacks and goods themed on Mario and friends; and a look around Bowser’s Castle and a sneak peek at the Mario Kart: Koopa’s Challenge ride.

Silent Hill Creator's New Project Will Be a Horror Action-Adventure Game, Aiming for 2023

Silent Hill and Gravity Rush creator Keiichiro Toyama has shared some details of the upcoming debut game from his new studio, which will be a horror-themed action-adventure, aiming for a 2023 release, that will appeal to Toyama's fans.

Toyama's Bokeh Game Studio was founded on August 13 and announced publicly in December. Speaking with IGN Japan, the acclaimed developer explained that he is working on “an action-adventure game that will appeal to fans of my previous work”. He explained that the game will include “battles and story elements” in the kind of richly authored worlds you might recognize from his games at Sony’s Japan Studio and Konami.

When pressed on whether this new title will lean more toward the horror themes of Silent Hill and Siren or the cuter anime-styled paranormal setting of Gravity Rush, he explained, “If anything, this will be more of a horror-oriented game. But we will focus on making this a broader entertainment experience, rather than a hardcore horror game.”

While Toyama has been a first-party Sony developer for the past 20 years or so, he said that this new game will be a multi-platform release. “We are developing with PC as the lead platform, but we hope to release the game on as many console platforms as possible,” he said.

[caption id="attachment_2456458" align="alignnone" width="1920"]Bokeh Game Studio founders Junya Okura, Keiichiro Toyama, and Kazunobu Sato. Bokeh Game Studio founders Junya Okura, Keiichiro Toyama, and Kazunobu Sato.[/caption]

The new title is being developed by a “fairly large” team, and Bokeh cofounder and producer Kazunobu Sato explained that they are still in the early stages of development, with an estimated target release date of 2023. “We’re just entering prototype development, and development will probably take nearly three years. So we hope to get this game into your hands in about three years from now.”

Regarding the studio’s foundation, Toyama explained that a combination of remote work during the COVID-19 pandemic and turning 50 prompted him to think about his future, and to answer the beckoning call of independence. He turned to longtime collaborators Sato (producer on the Siren series and The Last Guardian) and Junya Okura (lead level designer on the Siren and Gravity Rush series, whom Toyama credits with giving shape to his gameplay ideas), and the three Japan Studio colleagues set up Bokeh Game Studio together, with Toyama as Creator, Sato as Producer and Okura as Game Director. They initially considered creating smaller mobile games, before eventually building up a team of “mostly veterans” to increase the scale of their ambitions.

“I took a lot of inspiration from genDESIGN,” said Toyama, referring to the studio founded by Ico creator Fumito Ueda, who was yet another Japan Studio alumnus. “Ueda told me so much about his experiences that it inspired me to follow suit.”

While Bokeh’s first game may be a way off, Sato and business development manager Yohei Hart (also ex-Japan Studio) promised that the studio’s newly launched Twitter account and Facebook account will show peeks behind the curtain as the team progresses with development. “When you work at a major studio like Japan Studio, there is a limit to what you can share publicly, so now that we are free from those restraints, we’d like to take the opportunity to share as much as we can … so that the audience can see how the game comes together over time,” explained Sato. “We hope it might help people to not forget about us.”

The 4K, 240FPS KFConsole Is Real... And It Will Keep Your Chicken Warm

Move over PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, Kentucky Fried Chicken has announced its KFConsole - a VR-ready, Intel-powered PC capable of 4K, Raytracing, gameplay up to 240fps, and a Chicken Chamber that will keep you chicken warm as you game. No, we aren't kidding. This KFConsole was technically first unveiled a day after the PlayStation 5 reveal event, and although many thought it may just be a fun marketing joke by KFC, the KFConsole is very real. The KFConsole's case is built by Cooler Master, and the patented Chicken Chamber is perhaps its marquee feature. "Never risk letting your chicken go cold again thanks to the patented Chicken Chamber," The description reads. "Utilising the systems natural heat and airflow system you can now focus on your gameplay and enjoy hot, crispy chicken between rounds." The KFConsole is housed in a custom Cooler Master NC100 chassis and includes an Intel Nuc 9 and an Asus powered GPU that can be swapped out. It also has two Seagate BarraCuda 1TB SSDs that have "PCIe NVMe speeds that are 6x faster." [widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="albumSlug=kfconsole-images&captions=true"] The release date and pricing of the KFConsole have yet to be given, but hopefully they won't be as tough to find as the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. KFC has been working its way into the hearts and minds of many with not only its food and the KFConsole, but also with its official KFC dating sim and its Lifetime movie that stars Mario Lopez as Colonel Sanders.
