A gameplay trailer for Off the Grid has revealed a ton of gameplay for the upcoming cyberpunk-inspired battle royale directed by Neill Blomkamp.
Revealed during gamescom 2023, the near-two minute trailer (below) opens with a jaded futuristic streamer talking about the high-stakes action of Off the Grid.
It goes on to show a ton of gameplay clips from around the dystopian map of Teardrop Island, with players battling it out in the PvP combat. We see battles take place on rooftops, in industrial areas, underground, and more.
Off the Grid seemingly features a ton of traversal options too. While simpler vehicles like trucks and cars are available to get around the map, there are also more advanced options like grappling hooks and jetpacks. We see the former used on a train to speed through the map while the latter is used to fly to the top of a building for a surprise kill.
The trailer also shows a glimpse of what's promised to be a 60-hour narrative campaign that takes place during actual gameplay of Off the Grid, with what looks to be a woman being captured and transported by the player and his allies.
This story has been teased previously in a miniseries set in the battle royale's world, though other details around Off the Grid are still hazy. It was announced in May 2022 by developer Gunzilla Games, with Richard K. Morgan (lead writer of Crysis 2 and author of Altered Carbon) writing the script and Blomkamp serving as chief visionary officer.
It will also incorporate an NFT platform called GunZ that utilizes blockchain technology for in-game item trading, where players can buy new in-game items from other players.
