Shadows of the Damned, the demon hunting shooter released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2011, is being remastered.
Announced by Suda51 and the Grasshopper Manufacture ahead of 2023's Devolver Digital Direct, a bizarre announcement trailer (above) shows Grasshopper community manager James Mountain attacked by the game's protagonist Garcia Hotspur.
No release date for Shadows of the Damned: Remastered was revealed, though the trailer did promise it was "coming soon". Platforms weren't announced either, though it will presumably come to at least PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series.
Shadows of the Damned saw Hotspur, "a hard-as-nails, leather-clad, motorcycle-riding professional demon hunter", embark on a mission to save his girlfriend.
"As he explores the furthest reaches of the netherworld, Garcia battles through Hell and back, with danger and turmoil around every corner," reads the official synopsis. "Gamers will find themselves challenged by demented puzzles and thrust into gruesome battles with vile and deformed creatures that can only come from the darkest recesses of Hell."
In our 7/10 review of the original, IGN said: "As an action game, Shadows of the Damned is a passable exercise in a few interesting ideas", while "as a weird tour through a Hell we haven't seen before" it's "an experience that's worth having."
