Amazon Games Adds the Long-Delayed Throne and Liberty to Its Lineup

Amazon Games has revealed its latest online collaboration, confirming that it will team with NCSoft to bring Throne and Liberty to PC, PlayStation, and Xbox Series X|S in North America, South America, Europe, and Japan.

Originally envisioned as a sequel to Lineage, Throne and Liberty has gradually morphed into an entirely new franchise over the course of its many years of development. It joins Amazon's growing portfolio of online games, which also include Lost Ark and New World.

In announcing the deal, Amazon Games vice president Christoph Hartmann praised NCSoft and said would online games would continue to be a big part of the company's strategy going forward.

"Publishing games that live and grow over time remains a critical piece of our strategy, and delivering games of the highest quality from the world’s most talented developers is one of the cornerstones of our business. The last year has taught us a great deal about publishing and managing a successful live-service game on a global scale, and we’re ready to bring Throne and Liberty players an incredible experience at launch," Harmann said in a statement.

Throne and Liberty has been through several closed betas over the years while suffering multiple delays. It wil combine "story-driven adventure and action combat" with "constantly shifting geographical and environmental features that change the course of play," and will feature both large-scale PvP and PvE combat.

Outside of Throne and Liberty, Amazon Games is also publishing Crystal Dynamics' next Tomb Raider game as well as Bandai Namco Online's Blue Protocol. It's part of an overall drive to make the retail giant an established competitor in the gaming market.

Throne and Liberty was previously rumored to be on track for a release in the first half of 2023. However, Amazon Games says it is not confirming release date info at this time.
