Here's some good news for anyone in the market for a pro-quality controller for Xbox or PC. Microsoft's Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 Core is on sale for a new all-time low price. It normally retails for $129.99, but you can grab it now for $115.99 at a handful of retailers (see it at Amazon). That's a 12% discount, which, hey, is better than nothing.

From a funcitonality standpoint, the Core controller is identical to the standard Elite Series 2 controller (which is currently on sale for $169.99 at MS Store). The only difference, besides the color, is that it comes with fewer parts and accessories. The standard Elite Series 2 controller comes with a carrying case, charging doc, four rear paddle buttons, plus an alternate D-pad and thumbsticks. The Core version doesn't include those items.
It still has professional-level build quality, and it gives you the ability to swap out those parts if you buy them separately. Like the standard Elite, it has a rubberized grip for better handling. You can toggle shorter hair trigger locks to get shots off quicker in shooters. You can also adjust the tension in the thumbsticks using a tool that comes with the controller.
The image below offers an easy visual guide to what comes with each controller.
If you buy the Core version and decide that you want all the extra pieces, you can buy them in a bundle for $59.99. Add it up, and buying the Core controller and the components separately would actually cost you $10 more than buying the standard Elite Series 2 at MSRP. So, it’s your call which one you want to get.
If color customization is your thing, the standard Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 is now available in the Xbox Design Lab.
