Halo Infinite's console players are calling for cross-play to be turned off, with a number of players reporting that cheaters are becoming more common across the game's multiplayer modes.
Over on the Halo subreddit, a number of players have commented on the current state of cheating in Halo Infinite's multiplayer mode, which appears to have rapidly become a problem since its release on November 15. While the game is currently still running as a beta, a number of fans have already become worried about the state of hacking and are asking 343 to do more about it.
Across social media, a wealth of videos similar to the one posted above have been shared by fans seemingly showing players using common FPS hacks such as aimbots and wall-hacks in order to gain an advantage over others in their matches.
Reddit user Dull-Caterpillar3153 notes that cheat providers are currently listing everything from infinite ammo modifiers to the ability to unlock paid cosmetics. Some are reporting that hackers are even blocking Theater mode replays in order to prevent video-based reports of cheating – an even larger problem given that Halo Infinite doesn't include killcam replays, which are often used as proof in other titles.
Many of those those on Reddit have asked 343 to include a crossplay toggle allowing players more freedom over who they engage with, and similar sentiments have been shared by Infinite's community on Twitter. Currently, the game defaults to have players on both PC and console put into the same pool – with cheats more easy to enable on PC, many players on Xbox consoles would prefer a simple way to disable that crossover.
@343Postums @Unyshek Just matched another cheater/hacker in Halo Infinite. Guy’s gamertag is EUGENEYY on Xbox. Let me turn off cross-play until you guys can get an actual anti-cheat implemented. pic.twitter.com/G9hwahtBRK

Although disabling cross-play might allow console players some relief when it comes to cheating in the game, it certainly won't fix the issue entirely. With that in mind, some players have taken to targeting other limitations currently present in Infinite such as the lack of a report button present during a match. "It sucks there's also no report button in-game," said one user on Reddit.
While others have pointed out that players using the Xbox App can report those cheating via their Gamertag, this doesn't necessarily help players accessing the game via Steam and arguably should be more streamlined regardless.
Cheating is an issue that has plagued a number of free-to-play shooters in recent memory. Perhaps the worst affected of these has been Activision's free-to-play Battle Royale Call of Duty Warzone. The game featured prominent issues with hacking throughout long stints of 2021.
While Halo Infinite certainly hasn't reached a similar level of notoriety with cheaters as that of Warzone, both 343 and Microsoft will be hoping to get a handle on things sooner rather than later.
