Pokemon Diamond and Pearl Remakes Revealed

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl have been revealed. The games are 3D remakes of Pokemon's 2006 Nintendo DS entries, and are coming for Nintendo Switch. Announced during today's Pokemon Presents broadcast, these chibi-style remakes of Pokemon's generation 4 are planned for release in late 2021. But instead of being made by the usual studio, Game Freak, they're being made by ILCA inc, which has also worked on games like Pokemon Home, and was a support studio for Nier Automata and Yakuza 0. The games will be directed by original Diamond and Pearl director Junichi Masuda, as well as ILCA's Yuichi Ueda. The remakes have been rumoured for some time. We awarded Pokemon Diamond and Pearl an 8.5/10 review back in 2006, saying that, "as long as you're comfortable with playing 'more of the same,' which -- let's be honest here -- is more of a really excellent and strategically deep handheld experience, then it's thumbs up for the DS version [of Pokemon]." Meanwhile, Game Freak is working on Pokemon Legends Arceus, a game also taking place in the Sinnoh region of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, but many years in the past in a period stylized like feudal Japan.
